How To Handle A Lacrosse Long Pole

This page focuses on how to use a lacrosse long pole (or D-Pole). This long stick is used by defensemen or long stick middies (LSMs). In most cases, a defender should use a poke check or lift check to disrupt a shot or pass versus using a more risky type of check (i.e. over the head check). The instructional videos below show how to handle a long pole in a variety of different situations (i.e. how to defend from behind the goal and defense against opposing players coming from the top of the field).

LSMs and close defenders should also visit the page on How To Shoot With A Lacrosse Long Pole.
