Lacrosse Defense - How To Slide

This page focuses on how to slide when playing defense in lacrosse. Sliding is a team concept used by lacrosse defenders. If one defender has been burnt by an offensive player who has the ball, one of his fellow defenders will "slide" (shift) and leave his man in order to stop this offensive player from driving to the goal. The third defender will also slide in order to cover the second defender's man.

Sliding prevents the opposing team from having an open man near the goal. It also allows that first defender time to catch up and double the opponent with the ball or cover the furthest open man.
