Lacrosse Feeds - Passing for a Scoring Opportunity

This page will show you how to do a feed in lacrosse. This is where a player is passing to a teammate for a scoring opportunity. For more instructions on passing techniques (i.e. behind the back passes), please visit the main Lacrosse Passing section.

  • You need to keep your head up & eyes open. Continually survey the field for open teammates or for a cutting teammate who has the potential to get open for a scoring opportunity.
  • Throw a strong, hard pass to your teammate. A weak, soft pass will be intercepted or allow your opponents more time to respond and halt the potential scoring opportunity.
  • Ideally, you will aim for your teammate's "box position" (where the stick is near his ear). However, it is better to get off a good quick feed to an open teammate versus making the perfect box pass.
  • Feeding on the run will reduce the chance that a defender will get into position to block your pass.
  • Lead a cutting teammate so he will be in position for a score. Don't pass behind a cutter because it is difficult to catch and get off a shot.
