Lacrosse Shovel Pass - Instructions, Videos, etc.

This page will show you how to do a lacrosse shovel pass. This is a useful pass if you are under pressure and need to get off a pass quickly. A shovel pass can been used when you have scooped up a ground ball under pressure and you need to quickly flip it to an open teammate without raising your stick into a proper throwing (and exposed) position. For example, a defender can shovel pass a ground ball to a waiting teammate versus trying to make a regular pass and having the stick trail checked by an opposing player chasing after him.

You can practice shovel passes with a friend or against a wall. Try to practice shovel passes while on the move in order to better simulate game conditions. For more instructions on passing techniques (i.e. behind the back passes), please visit the main Lacrosse Passing section.
