Lacrosse Wall Ball - Instruction, Videos, Tips, etc.

Wall ball is a great way for athletes to practice their lacrosse stick skills (i.e. catching and passing accuracy). Moreover, it is one of the best ways to quickly improve basic lacrosse skills (as you can get in lots of repetitions during your wall ball practice).

For specific wall ball drills (i.e. one handed wall ball drills), please visit the main Wall Ball Drills section.

Wall Ball Tips & Advice

  • Wall ball is the quickest way to improve your son's stick skills. Your son will get many more "touches" (i.e. chances at practicing his passing & catching) versus regular clinics or games.
  • He can also play wall ball at any time and without the need for practice partners.
  • Always have your son wear lacrosse gloves when playing wall ball. This will help him get used to throwing & catching in a more "game-like" environment where you use gloves versus bare hands.
  • If you are using a normal hard lacrosse ball, you should make your son wear his full lacrosse gear (i.e. helmet). This will save you from a trip to the dentist/doctor if he gets hit in the face by an errant shot.
  • Or consider using a tennis ball. This type of ball hurts less if someone gets hit, teaches a beginner to throw harder (as it is lighter than a regular lacrosse ball) and helps with catching (because it is lighter and can bounce out more easily… thus you have to focus more on your catching skills).
  • Make sure to focus on your son's non-dominant hand during wall ball. Ambidextrous players are highly valued in lacrosse (i.e. coaches love kids that can score either lefty or righty).
  • If you can't find a good wall then consider buying your child a pitch back or a lacrosse rebound wall. This will also save your house from being used as a wall ball target. :)
